On July 26th, 2024 at 2:51AM, La Grande Police Department (LGPD) officers witnessed a silver Dodge Charger exhibiting reckless behavior near Cove Avenue and Albany Street. The vehicle, driven by Caleb Walker (21) of La Grande, was observed traveling at high speeds, disregarding stop signs, and failing to use turn signals.
Upon attempting a traffic stop, the suspect immediately fled, reaching speeds exceeding 100 MPH. Although the vehicle briefly lost control, it remained on the roadway. Concerned for public safety, LGPD officers discontinued their pursuit. The suspect vehicle was later spotted in the area of Adams Avenue and Chestnut Street, continuing to drive recklessly.
With the cooperation of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, LGPD officers successfully initiated another traffic stop. Caleb Walker surrendered without further incident upon realizing escape was no longer possible. Subsequent investigation revealed two female passengers in the vehicle and the seizure of a handgun from the glove box.
Field Sobriety Tests conducted on Walker indicated alcohol impairment as a contributing factor to his reckless behavior. As a result, Caleb Walker was arrested and faces charges including Attempt to Elude, DUII, Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering (x2), and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The vehicle was towed from the scene following the arrest.
The LGPD Officers and UCSO Deputy involved demonstrated commendable restraint and coordinated efforts to apprehend the suspect safely. This is an ongoing investigation and further charges may be pending.
