LA GRANDE — An investigation is underway into an early morning fire at the Woodgrain lumber mill in La Grande.
La Grande Fire was called to the scene at the mill on Island Avenue just before 3:00am on Friday, September 22.
Upon arrival crews found large amounts of smoke coming from the planner building. Crews made entry and found fire under the floor in the building. Firefighters used chain saws to cut portions of the heavy timber floor to access and extinguish the fire. Additional crews from La Grande Rural, Imbler and Union ambulance were on scene to assist.
All resources were released from the scene just after 6:00am. No injuries have been reported and staff at Woodgrain remained on scene for fire watch and to try and discover a cause.
