Drunk driver injured on I-84 trying to drive between two semi-trucks

UNION – One man was sent to the hospital last week for trying (and failing) to thread the needle on the Highway. At around 1:42 a.m. on Friday, August 7, Oregon State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-84 westbound near milepost 276 (west of Union), involving a passenger car attempting to fit between two commercial motor vehicles and hitting both of them. A full summary of events, as provided by OSP in a recent press long, is as follows:

“On 8/7/26 at about 1:42am, OSP responded to a multi vehicle crash that occurred on I-84 near milepost 276. Investigation revealed that a passenger car was driven in between two CMVs which were traveling next to one another on a portion of the highway with only two lanes of travel. The passenger car collided with both CMVs before coming to an uncontrolled stop in the median. Both CMVs were damaged and stopped on the right shoulder. 

The driver of the passenger car was transported to Grande Ronde Hospital by ground ambulance. Both CMV drivers as well as a co driver were physically uninjured. After being cleared and released from the hospital the driver of the gray sedan was later arrested and lodged at Union County Jail for DUII, Reckless Driving and Recklessly Endangering Another (x3). The gray sedan was towed by Fenn’s Towing. The trucking companies arranged for the two CMVs to be towed.”

The driver of the car was identified as 29 Andrew Reobert Menges of Greenville South Carolina.
