Driver airlifted after Tuesday I-84 crash

UMATILLA COUNTY – Oregon State Police (OSP) have released more information on a multi-vehicle crash in the that closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 for approximately four hours on Tuesday.
The crash happened just to the east of the Poverty Flats Road exit.
An OSP report says a green Peterbuilt truck that was towing a yellow Freightliner box truck was moving slowly with its hazard lights on. A white Freightliner truck that was coming up behind at a faster speed did not notice the Peterbuilt’s slower speed and tried to maneuver to avoid it but ended up colliding with it.
The driver of the white Freightliner was transported via air to St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla, the driver of the Peterbuilt was checked by EMS on scene and refused transport.
