Dr. Bailey discusses importance of colon/breast cancer screening

JOHN DAY – Blue Mountain Hospital District’s Dr. Zachary Bailey was on KJDY’s Coffee Time for a conversation regarding cancer awareness. Dr. Bailey focused mostly on colorectal and breast cancers. He said there are other ways, aside from colonoscopy, to get screened:

“There are multiple ways to screen for colon cancer outside of colonoscopy. So, those that are really adverse to that, there are other methods to use, and it would be ideal to start that screening at age 45.

As for breast cancer—it’s an incredibly common cancer and incredibly preventable in terms of, if we catch that disease early our chances of not only survival but, just, a decreased disease burden is significant. So, getting that mammogram done at least once every two years after the age of 50 is important.”
