Dozens of local high school athletes going for gold at track & field championships

EASTERN OREGON — Track and field athletes from across eastern Oregon will be descending upon the mecca of the sport, Hayward Field in Eugene, to compete for a state title. 

The OSAA Track & Field State Championships begin Thursday, May 16 in TrackTown USA and run through Saturday the 18th.

Numerous athletes from schools across the region will compete at the famous stadium at the University of Oregon, where countless Olympic champions have also competed.

Thursday sees preliminary heats for 3A-1A races and the finals for the 3A-1A 3,000 meters. Some field events will crown champions on day one, including in high jump, long jump, javelin and more. 

Friday the 17th will see the start of the 4A competition, and will also wrap up the finals in 3A, 2A and 1A events as well. 4A finals in most track events will conclude on Saturday the 18th. 

Local athletes and teams looking to repeat as champs this year include Crane’s Kortney Doman in 1A Girls High Jump, Jett Leavitt of Joseph in the 1A Boys 3000m, Owyhee Harguess of Enterprise in the 2A Girls 400m, Ella Randle of Pine Eagle in the 1A Girls Shot Put, Annie Rose Miller of Joseph in the 1A Girls Pole Vault, Imbler’s Trevor Treat in the 1A Boys 110m Hurdles, Joseph in the 1A Girls 4x400m relay, Enterprise-Wallowa in both the 2A Girls and Boys 4×400 Relay and Nolan Mead of Pendleton in the 4A Boys Triple Jump.

A couple local stars are also going for the rare double title defense, including La Grande’s Brooke Perry in the 4A Girls 1500m and 3000m, and Rasean Jones of Baker in the 4A Boys 110m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles.
