BAKER CITY – If you are headed into the wood this weekend, please remember that campfires are not allowed within the Wallowa Whitman National Forest, unless they are in the metal fire rings provided at official campgrounds.
It may be cooling off at night, but the forest is still bone dry according to forest officials. It just takes one careless campfire to start a wildfire that puts lives & property at risk.
It’s everyone’s responsibility to follow the current Public Use Restrictions to prevent wildfires. Before you hit the road, please check the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest website, Facebook, or Twitter for the latest info. And call 911 if you see a fire.
