LA GRANDE – Northeast Oregon Regional Food Bank will be losing their current building in July of this year and must move to a new location. Community Connection of Northeast Oregon, Inc purchased the old PGG building on McAlister Road in Island City in September of last year as the new home for the regional food bank.
An update according to Community Connections in La Grande the total cost for the project is just over one million dollars and approximately $400,000 of that amount is for structural remodeling, required site improvements, and installing new commercial freezers and coolers. Donations from private individuals and business have brought in nearly $85,000 from Union, Baker, Wallowa, and Grant Counties. $185,000 has been received through grants, and another $40,000 in pending grants.
Construction bids are currently being taken, the deadline for the bids is March 2nd.
This much larger building will be six times the size and will make way for larger coolers and freezers which will increase the variety and amount of food that can be accepted, stored, and distributed. The deadline to move into the new building is August 1st, 2021.
