MORROW COUNTY – The Port of Morrow Board of Commissioners removed
Commissioner Kelly Doherty as its representative on the Columbia Development
Authority Board of Directors at a meeting last week.

A majority of the commissioners took the action after Doherty was critical of CDA
Director Greg Smith at a recent meeting. One commissioner said that while her
statements might have been accurate “the way you went about it was not good.”

Smith came under scrutiny for saying the CDA had approved a raise for him and his
staff in an application for a federal grant. That raise had not been approved by the
directors.

Doherty defended her actions at that CDA meeting. Neither a video nor an audio
recording of that meeting on Sept. 20 has been posted.

The vote of the port commissioners to remove Doherty from CDA was 3 to 2, with
Doherty herself and Commissioner John Murray opposing it. Following that vote, Port of
Morrow Board President Joe Taylor was selected to replace her and Joel Peterson
agreed to serve as an alternate.
