OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has rolled out an initiative to improve access to wildland fire training courses for enrolled members of state tribes.
DNR said it will use $800,000 in funding from the legislature to cover the training costs, travel, and other expenses. Funding in the way of scholarships will also be provided.
Additionally, DNR will partner with the Washington State University Extension Service to deliver training and workshops to tribal participants.
