Disc golf club proposes a clubhouse for Fort Walla Walla Park

WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla City Council will consider a proposal today (Tuesday) to turn a former caretaker’s house at Fort Walla Walla Park into a retail shop and community hub for disc golf and dog park users.

Members of the Fort Walla Walla Disc Golf Club are scheduled to present the plan during a 4 p.m. council work session. Under the proposal, the local nonprofit would operate a small retail storefront selling disc golf gear, apparel, and dog park accessories inside the city-owned building.

In exchange for a no-cost lease, the club would handle basic upkeep, interior decorations, and building repairs. The city would continue to maintain the surrounding park grounds.

The club plans to raise $50,000 through grants, sponsorships, and donations to launch the project. That funding includes $20,000 for initial repairs to make the building habitable, $11,000 in startup costs, $8,200 for new course signage, and $10,800 for portable baskets.

Beyond retail, the clubhouse would serve as a check-in point for leagues and tournaments while offering open community space. Generated revenue will support building maintenance, course improvements, and regional events.

According to club data, 445 active players logged more than 2,200 rounds at the course in 2025. Organizers say the shop would activate an underutilized city asset while positioning the region as a major disc golf destination.
