WALLA WALLA – The city of Walla Walla urges people to dechlorinate privately-owned pools or spas before emptying them.
To dechlorinate pool or spa water, let the water sit for five days or more without adding any chemicals. Dechlorinated water has a tested chlorine level of 0.1 ppm or less and a pH between 6.5 and 7.5.
Do not drain chlorinated water into storm drains as this pollutes local waterways and can harm aquatic life and plants. Instead, drain dechlorinated pool or spa water to the lawn or landscaped areas where it can percolate into the ground without flooding adjacent properties.
