Crews will be drilling on sidewalks in downtown La Grande on Friday, Dec. 19, in preparation for theย Eastern Oregon 2024-2027 ADA curb ramps, phase 3.
Work will take place at these corners along U.S. 30/Adams Avenue.
Travel lanes and parking will not be affected, but sidewalk detours may be used in narrow locations. All pedestrians will still be able to move safely through or around work zones.
About the drilling
The work involves drilling through the concrete to see whatโs underneath to help plan future construction. Crews will use hand-held equipment to drill about six inches into the sidewalk. They will use a scope camera to investigate the materials or voids underneath. Drilling will not take place over known basements. Work at each corner is anticipated to take under an hour, and holes will be patched immediately afterward.
This work is part of a larger effort to bring curb ramps in Eastern Oregon up to current ADA standards, improving safety and access for everyone.
Construction for Phase 3 is expected to begin in fall 2026.
