PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council has approved an emergency grant of $25,000 for the Pendleton Children’s Center to expand its daycare services. This began due to the closure of a daycare facility, however that facility is now being purchased by two people who also offer daycare.

City Manager Robb Corbett said that since they already have customers, some of those using Room to Bloom Daycare would be displaced.

“They’re going to have their own clients that they’re going to be bringing into the business, so there’s still a need,” he said.

Actually, that need existed in Pendleton before the announced closure of Room to Bloom.

“There are still over 100 identified children who have need for childcare,” Corbett said. “Based on that information the city council agreed to award $25,000 toward this project.”

In addition, the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners approved speeding up a previously approved $25,000 grant to the Pendleton Children’s Center at its meeting Wednesday morning. That, combined with the city’s grant, will allow the center to open up more than 30 spaces for the care of working parents’ children.
