WALLA WALLA – The Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families confirms Bright Beginnings day care at Walla Walla Community College has voluntarily closed during an ongoing investigation.
“DCYF did not take enforcement action,” DCYF Communications Administrator Nancy Gutierrrez said. “Due to the open investigation, we cannot comment any further.”
The day care center operated in leased space on the WWCC campus.
WWCC spokesperson Michelle Cole said the college is not the operator, although the day care’s clients included children of employees and students.
Cole said when WWCC learned that the center was closing, the college worked to find alternative placements for the children.
“WWCC also convened community stakeholders to assess what could be done to retain child placements in the area,” Cole said.
Bright Beginnings opened in 2017.
