PENDLETON – Pendleton Police Department detectives arrested a suspected rapist Wednesday. Police Chief Chuck Byram said that the assault was reported on Sept. 26 on the Pendleton River Parkway near Southwest Seventh Street.
“Through the course of the investigation, officers identified the suspect as Markus Paul Davis, a 19-year-old Pendleton resident,” Byram wrote.
The district attorney’s office presented the case against Davis to a Umatilla County grand jury on Oct. 28. The grand jury found there was sufficient evidence to charge the suspect with first-degree rape, first- and third-degree sodomy, and second-degree sexual abuse.
Davis was taken into custody Wednesday and lodged at the Umatilla County Jail on $500,000 bond.
