D.A. Urges caution and announces increased patrols ahead of Baker High School Prom

BAKER CITY – A message from Baker County District Attorney Greg Baxter in preparation for Baker High School Prom Night.

“I spent two years living in Sao Paulo, Brazil before I went to college. During that time, I had to learn to be aware of my surroundings and make choices that helped me stay safe — like avoiding certain streets at night. It wasn’t about fear; it was about being smart and protecting myself.

The Baker High School Prom is coming up this weekend. I want you to think about your own safety as you have a fun and memorable weekend. Choosing to avoid drugs and alcohol is one way to stay more aware, in control, and better able to protect yourself and your friends.

Local law enforcement, the Juvenile Department and my office have been brainstorming various ways that we can better keep our youth safe this weekend. In order to do so, there will be a heavy presence of law enforcement patrolling and monitoring certain areas of the city and county. There will be heavier patrols on both Friday and Saturday nights. Why are we sharing this with you? We know that some kids may ignore our warnings and choose to drink. Please talk to your kids about being smart. We don’t want to see kids harmed through drinking and driving. We also want to make sure that they do not put themselves in a position where they become a victim. Please encourage your child to be smart and think twice about their actions this weekend.”
