Curb ramp projects underway in Northeast Oregon, with chip sealing planned this summer

NORTHEAST OREGON – Summer is here, and that means roadway and curb projects are ramping up across the state. ODOT region 5, which encompasses the entirety of Eastern Oregon, is no exception. For Union and Baker counties specifically, various curb-ramp and chip-seal projects are either currently underway or expected to begin soon.  

For the North Powder/Richland/Halfway Curb Ramp project, ODOT lists the following tasks and work locations underway as of this week:

North Powder:

Crews are finishing concrete work and installing permanent signs at various corners.

Halfway:

Crews plan to work at:

  • Church Street, SE corner – Remove, prepare and pour concrete.
  • Gover Lane, corner 5 – Remove, prepare and pour concrete.
  • Record Street, SW corner 2 – Remove, prepare and pour concrete.
  • Kellogg Street, SW corner – Remove, prepare and pour concrete.​; NW corner – Pipe work.
  • Bell Street, NW corner – Pipe work.

Richland​:

Construction may be pushed out a week to the week of June 15. It was scheduled to begin June 8 at the southwest intersection of OR 86 (Main Street) and Moody Road. Crews plan to work on the northwest side of the highway first.​

The project, which includes upgrades to curb ramps and pedestrian signals, along with the installation of new ADA compliant infrastructure, is expected to be completed in October, 2026. More info here: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/projects/pages/project-details.aspx?project=23685

For the Eastern Oregon 2024-2027 ADA curb ramps, phase 3 project, which will cover Haines, La Grande, Sumpter, Baker and Union, bidding is currently underway. Work is expected to begin later this year and last into 2027. 

The project will again install and upgrade infrastructure and curb ramps to meet modern ADA standards. Planned work locations thus far include:

Sumpter:

  • OR 410 (Sumpter Highway) – SW Austin Street.

La Grande:

  • OR 82 (Island Avenue) – Adams Avenue to I-84 westbound on-/off-ramps.
  • U.S. 30 (Adams Ave.) – Walnut Street to Gekeler Lane.

Haines:

  • ​​U.S. 30 (Front Street) – Second Street to Fifth Street.

Lastly for Northeast Oregon, chip sealing is planned on OR7 beginning mid-July along with OR-203-A and OR237-A starting July 6. All three projects are expected to be completed by the end of July.

Specific Locations are: 

Baker County:

  • OR 7 | Phillips Lake to Auburn Ave. in Baker City, mileposts 35-51.

Union County:

  • OR 203-A | Exit 265 westbound off-ramp to Godley Road, mileposts 6-15
  • OR 237-A | Conley Road to Bryan Street in Union, mileposts 11-21.5.
