MISSION – The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation Family Violence Services is answering more stalking and harassment protection order calls than it has in the past. Lead Advocate Enola Dick has been with the agency for several years.
“In the last two years, we’ve had an increase in stalking and harassment protection orders,” she said.
Dick has been with the agency for six and a half years. She said when she first started she might get one or two calls, but without follow-up for protection orders. She said that’s seen “a pretty big increase” in the last two years. Stalking is defined as at least two unwanted contacts.
“Sometimes it’s an intimate partner,” she said. “We had a victim who another employee started stalking her.”
Dick said in that case, the employee would show up at different areas of her work as well as out in public.
“He’d start ranting and raging and that was really pretty scary for her,” Dick said.
Whether it’s stalking or domestic violence, the agency is ready to help. Its 24-hour hotline is 541-240-4171.
