MISSION – The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation Family Violence Services stands ready to serve anyone in the area who needs help. Sexual Assault Specialist Maggie Steerman said the agency does not limit its work to only Tribal members.
“We serve anybody who calls us, Tribal or non-Tribal,” she said. “We serve within the original treaty boundaries which includes going to La Grande, Boardman, Tri-Cities, Walla Walla, and all the areas within.”
Statistics between July 2024 through June 2025, the agency helped 98 survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or elder abuse and helped 15 of them deal with child custody issues. Of those served, Steelman said that 10 were male, 47 were CTUIR members, 30 Caucasians, 12 members of other Tribes, and five Hispanic.
Their 24-hour confidential help line is 541-240-4171.
