MISSION – The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation has posted a draft of a plan to deal with climate change. Interim Deputy Executive Director Matthew Johnson said that while the climate is always changing, it appears to be moving much more rapidly, and CTUIR wants to be prepared.
The plan has been worked on over the last year.
“We’re working to prepare to safeguard our first foods, our built environment, our infrastructure, prepare the economy, and do that all based on what the science is telling us,” Johnson said.
First foods deals with protecting not just roots and berries, but also water, fish, and big game. “I’d encourage anyone who wants to learn more to take a look at the website and look at that plan,” Johnson said.
