KENNEWICK – The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation Board of Trustees has entered into an agreement with the city of Kennewick establishing a government-to-government relationship between the two bodies.
A signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding was held in Columbia Park Friday afternoon. A news release from the city states that the relationship will be centered on “good-faith voluntary commitments to perpetuate cultural heritage, promote economic development, and otherwise work in partnership for the mutual benefit” of the city and the tribes.
Kennewick Mayor Don Britain and CTUIR Board of Trustees Chairwoman Kat Brigham spoke at the ceremony and signed the agreement. Opening and closing blessings were offered by BOT member Armand Minthorn.
