Croghan Field dedication ceremony Friday in John Day

JOHN DAY – Today is the day the softball field at the 7th Street Sports Complex in John Day officially gets a name. At noon, the naming ceremony for Croghan Field, after the Mark Croghan family, will be held out at the field. Naming Committee Board member Jake Taylor was recently in the studio and explained the process:
“How we got to this name was through a committee that’s been recently been set up by Grant School District 3. Mark Witty had the vision behind it. So, we’ve met and put a lot more hours and personnel into this than we originally though, but, it’s created kind of a stepping stone for facilities in the future.”
Next Friday, the 24th, will be the commemoration of Malone and McConnell Fields, also beginning at noon.
Today’s Croghan Field dedication will take place before a Prospector Softball double-header against Irrigon.
