PENDLETON – Law enforcement deals with seasonal changes in criminal activity. As the temperatures drop, Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram says motorists should put up with the chill instead of leaving their vehicles as they warm up in their driveways.
He cautioned that people are on the lookout for unattended vehicles.
“It happens every year,” he said. “It’s going to continue to happen. We just ask people to be vigilant about that. Try not to do that, please. I mean, that’s a lot of money going out the window right there.”
Another crime in colder weather involves vacant buildings. He said squatters are on the lookout for indoor spaces where they can get out of the weather. Byram urges neighbors and owners of vacant structures to be on the lookout and to call 911 if they suspect someone who shouldn’t be is accessing empty buildings.
