Crews protected structures and extinguished fire near Ontario Monday morning

ONTARIO – No structures were damaged in a grass fire Monday morning in Ontario, according to officials. A vegetation fire was ignited around 8:36 on August 10th in the Ontario Rural Fire Protection District. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to approximately 8 acres. On August 10, 2026, at approximately 8:36 AM, Ontario Fire & Rescue (OFR) was dispatched to the area of 3651 Harmony Lane, in the Ontario Rural Fire Protection District, for a fast moving vegetation fire. Immediate response included two Type 5 brush engines (each with a crew of 2) and one command vehicle (crew of 1). OFR immediately requested a general page calling in all available OFR personnel. While in route, command requested mutual aid from Vale and Nyssa fire departments. Upon arrival, OFR found approximately 2 acres burning in light fuels with several structures threatened. Additional mutual aid was requested from Payette, Parma, and the US Wildland Fire Service (Vale District). Crews worked fast to contain the fire at approximately 8 acres and kept fire from damaging nearby structures. In total 8 engines, 3 tenders, 2 command/support vehicles, and more than 25 dedicated firefighters took part in the operation. There have been no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
