UMATILLA – Fire crews are battling a fast-moving brush fire on Saturday in the Taft and Bush Street area on the west side of Umatilla.

Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District says it spread rapidly wind-driven through steep terrain with light flashy fuels. Their last update at around 10:30 a.m. said it was extending toward the canal.

They put the size at 15 acres and said multiple structures were threatened but said that forward progress had been stopped and crews are working to hold the fire. They added that the terrain and limited access were presenting challenges.
