BAKER CITY – Harney County’s Crane Union High School reigned supreme during the recent OSAA 1A State Basketball Championship. Hosted March 5-8 at Baker High School, this marks the second consecutive year Crane players have claimed both the boys and girls 1A state basketball titles, and the third double win since 2022.
The Crane girls claimed the championship during the finals on March 8 in a 50-32 game against Union. Imbler girls, after making it to the Semi Finals on March 7 against Crane, came in 3rd place in a 48-39 game against Jordan Valley.
The Crane boys also claimed their championship during the March 8 Finals in a 45-42 game against Portland’s Mannahouse Academy. Umatilla County’s Nixyaawii boys also claimed 4th place in a 66-50 game against Sherman.
Looking ahead, The OSAA 4A Boys and Girls state championship begins this weekend, March 13-15, at Forest Grove High School. The 4A boys’ quarterfinals will be hosted on the Joe Moran Court and begin with Seaside vs Cascade at 1:30 p.m., Baker vs Crook County at 3:15 p.m., Mazama vs Scappoose at 6:30 p.m., and Phoenix vs Marshfield at 8:15 p.m. that evening.
The 4A girls’ quarterfinals will be hosted in the Viking Gym and begin with Crook County vs Philomath at 1:30 p.m., Cascade vs La Grande at 3:15 p.m., Baker vs Henley at 6:30 p.m., and Seaside vs Stayton at 8:15 p.m. that evening.
