COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council holds its regular meeting at 7 p.m. today (Tuesday) and Police Chief Troy Tomaras will deliver the annual report from his department. The meeting is streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel.

Tomaras wrote in report that while the challenges of 2020 were great, the department has also made accomplishments. For example, in 2020 CPPD received professional accreditation form the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs for the first time in its 75-year history.

He also wrote that he appreciated the community support as well as support from the city that enabled the department to get body cameras for its officers. Those cameras will be used beginning this year.

As for statistics, there were increases in narcotics arrests, burglaries, assaults, and shoplifting incidents and no change in motor vehicle thefts. All other categories showed a decrease. Those include driving under the influence, car prowls, thefts, and domestic violence incidents.
