ISLAND CITY – On Sunday, September 28, just after 4:00 p.m., the Oregon State Police and local EMS responded to a reported rollover crash along Highway 237A near milepost 1, roughly a mile east of Island City. The vehicle, a red GMC SUV, reportedly left the roadway, rolled multiple times, and landed on its side about 25 yards away in a nearby wheatfield. The Driver, a juvenile Cove resident, reportedly suffered major injuries but was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The full description of the crash, as provided by Oregon State Police in a recent press log, is as follows:
“On the above stated date and time, the Oregon State Police responded to a rollover motor vehicle crash at mile post 1 on highway 237A. When Troopers, fire and medics arrived on scene there was a red GMC SUV on its side approximately 25 yards off the road in a wheat field. Witness on scene stated that the GMC rolled about 3 or 4 times and ended with the driver’s side on the ground.
The driver of the GMC, who was partly ejected out the driver’s window due to wearing no seatbelt, was conscious upon arrival but pinned between the A pillar and the ground. Local Fire, Medics, and Law Enforcement worked together and successfully extricated the driver safely from the vehicle. The driver sustained major injuries to his legs but was stable at the hospital. Driver told me at the hospital that he dropped his water bottle, bent down to pick it up, hit the gravel on the shoulder and lost control of his vehicle. Fenn’s Towing and repair towed the vehicle. The driver was cited for careless driving.”
