Courtesy boat inspections Saturday in John Day

JOHN DAY – The Sherman County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office will be doing courtesy boat inspections for everyone getting their gear ready to hit the water. They’ll be set up tomorrow, April 2nd from 9am until noon at JD Rents. Sherman County Marine Deputy Glenn Palmer explains typically what they look for in a boat inspection:

“What we’re looking for is basically safety gear—life jackets, throwable, fire extinguisher. Part of the inspection process for inboard motors is to make sure they have proper ventilation. Also, keep an air horn or a whistle onboard.”

Once inspected and compliant, boaters will receive a sticker that shows other law enforcement they’ve undergone the safety check. Again, the event will be tomorrow at JD Rents in John Day.
