STANFIELD – The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners is sending $93,000 to the city of Stanfield for a street lighting project. The city has a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation that requires a local match of $130,000. The county’s contribution comes from its bicycle path/foot path funding.
“They have quite a bit of work underway on their streets, and they want to do some additional lighting and make it more pedestrian-friendly,” Board Chairman George Murdock said.
The ODOT road work involves reducing Highway 395 to two lanes. Called a “road diet” by ODOT, the narrowing is to allow more room for bicycle lanes and/or parking. The city wants to install pedestrian lighting along Main Street between Ball and Harding avenues.
ODOT estimates its work will be done by the end of October. The city has until June 30, 2022, to spend the county grant for lighting.
