WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners will meet this morning (Monday) at 9:45 a.m. to consider a $30,170.75 contract with Don Jackson Excavation of Milton-Freewater for the demolition of two rental homes next to the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds.
In a report submitted to the commissioners prior to today’s meeting, Fair Manager Greg Lybeck said the last of the seven rental homes did test positive for asbestos. The commissioners will consider an asbestos abatement contract at its next meeting.
Lybeck said the fair will also seek to burn some houses and work with the fire department to utilize that opportunity for training. The Walla Walla Police Department has already used some of the homes for training.
It is Lybeck’s hope that the majority of this project, including grading and graveling the sites for parking, will be completed in time for this year’s fair which runs August 28 through September 1.
