County seeks emergency manager

UMATILLA COUNTY– Umatilla County Emergency Manager Tom Roberts turned in his resignation on Feb. 13. County officials say his last day will be Feb. 28.

The opening is already posted under the “Jobs” tab on the county’s website. The salary is $6,575 a month and benefits. The emergency manager works directly under the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners.

The emergency manager deals specifically with preparing, responding, and recovering from emergencies of all sorts. The manager also disseminates information to county, city and state officials as needed as well as keeps the media and the public informed.

The manager must be prepared for threats to power, water, energy, health, and transportation infrastructure. They also must be ready to respond to fires, major accidents, school security and other potential crises.

The county requires either a degree in emergency services and response courses or 10 years’ experience and training in emergency management, fire, police, and/or emergency medical service. Previous experience in emergency planning as are demonstrated management and public relations skills and experience.
