WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to approve a resolution allowing Walla Walla County Public Works to sign a $60,000 right of way consultant agreement with Epic Land Solutions Inc. for the Wallula Road and South Gose Street project.

The total amount of the $744,943 project includes the design, right of way and construction of a compact roundabout and sidewalks. Public Works Director Tony Garcia said a roundabout is a better solution than a four-way stop or four-way traffic signal at that intersection.

“A roundabout allows free flow of traffic while reducing the speed of the vehicles at the intersection,” Garcia explained. “So, if you do have an accident, it is more than likely at a lower speed and a less aggressive angle of impact helping reduce the severity of the accident.”

Garcia said a contractor has not been selected yet. Construction bids won’t be advertised until after the right of way has been acquired.

“If all goes as planned, we plan to advertise for construction bids in 2022/2023,” Garcia said.
