WALLA WALLA โ€“ The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to approve a resolution allowing Walla Walla County Public Works to sign a $60,000 right of way consultant agreement with Epic Land Solutions Inc. for the Wallula Road and South Gose Street project.

The total amount of the $744,943 project includes the design, right of way and construction of a compact roundabout and sidewalks. Public Works Director Tony Garcia said a roundabout is a better solution than a four-way stop or four-way traffic signal at that intersection.

โ€œA roundabout allows free flow of traffic while reducing the speed of the vehicles at the intersection,โ€ Garcia explained. โ€œSo, if you do have an accident, it is more than likely at a lower speed and a less aggressive angle of impact helping reduce the severity of the accident.โ€

Garcia said a contractor has not been selected yet. Construction bids wonโ€™t be advertised until after the right of way has been acquired.

โ€œIf all goes as planned, we plan to advertise for construction bids in 2022/2023,โ€ Garcia said.
