PENDLETON – Umatilla County Board of Commissioners Chairman George Murdock says he is frustrated with the lack of COVID-19 vaccine being sent by the state. He reported that so far the county has received 4,400 doses. The math doesn’t work. Umatilla County is ranked second in the state per capita for coronavirus cases, but the county is 28th per capita in the state in receiving the doses.
“Nobody will admit it openly, but they are trying to vaccinate 12,000 people a day and they feel that if they focus on the high-density population areas, they are more likely to achieve that goal,” Murdock said. “The last couple of times I checked most of the vaccinations are going to Portland, Salem, and Bend.”
Murdock said Umatilla County has systems in place to be able to vaccinate 3,000 people a week.
“We’re actually a good example of how you can do it,” he said of the state’s goal of 12,000 per day,
