County continues at extreme risk

PENDLETON  – Gov. Kate Brown has announced updates to the county risk levels. The four risk levels are extreme risk, high risk, moderate risk, and lower risk. Umatilla County remains at extreme risk, joined by Morrow, Union, Malheur, and Baker counties in Eastern Oregon. A total of 29 of Oregon’s 36 counties are at that level.

No counties are categorized as high risk. Lake County got promoted from extreme to moderate risk. Lower risk counties are Gilliam, Sherman, Wallowa, Wheeler, Grant (moved from extreme), and Harney (moved from moderate).

Umatilla County Public Health reports the 53rd death related to COVID-19. An 89-year-old man with underlying medical conditions died Dec. 6 at Good Shepherd Health Care System.

The county reported 43 new COVID cases Tuesday. That brings the total to 4,936 cases, 248 being labeled presumptive. Presumptive cases are people who do not have a positive test, but is showing symptoms and has been in close contact with a confirmed case. They are moved to the confirmed category if they test positive.
