UMATILLA COUNTY – Umatilla County is the new owner of the former Mid-Columbia Bus Company property adjacent to the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center on Airport Road in Hermiston. Commissioner Cindy Timmons said that Commissioner Dan Dorran was the driving force in making the purchase a reality.

“It’s just a win-win situation for Umatilla County,” she said. “Commissioner Dorran was on top of that and we were able to make that building purchase.”

Dorran said the five acres of land offers paved parking with electricity and water to 48 spaces as well as the building. It was purchased for $2 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds.

Timmons said the building will house the OSU Extension Service, the fair offices, and a meeting room for the fair’s board of directors. It also offers storage space as well as room for 4-H competitions. The move will take place after this year’s fair and is expected to be complete by September or October.
