PENDLETON – The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners unanimously reinstated a revolving loan for Pendleton’s Southeast 15th Street Extension this week. The county had originally approved the plan, but it had lapsed. The city requested it be reactivated.
The program means $1.25 million will be taken from the county’s infrastructure reserve fund. The goal is to bring street access to a housing project proposed for the east side of town on what has become known as the Rees-Goad property. The project begins at the terminus of Southeast 15th Street near Franklin Grade Road and moves to a new intersection at Southeast Kirk Avenue.
The city has been installing waterlines in that area. The funds will be paid back to the county when the project developer reimburses the city through the local improvement district agreement.
The $3.4 million project was awarded to Bolen Construction of Hermiston. The contractor will build roads and sidewalks in the housing development area. Pendleton has already run water lines to the area.
