LA GRANDE – In March President Joe Biden signed an aid bill and since then it was announced that Union County is in the process of receiving $5.2 million. According to Union County Commissioner Paul Anderes, “The funds are in the process and funding guidelines have not been received on how the funds should be used”. Suggestions have been made on how to use the funds. Many of the ideas discussed in a work session were, paving of Baum Industrial Park, assisting businesses in COVID crisis, to adding new golf carts at Buffalo Peak Golf course. Anderes said it is going to be difficult to decide on a project.
Construction ideas were a new county jail, and a new fire department in Imbler.
The stimulus funds to counties are based on population. Also, cities in the county will receive an allotment from the federal government. City Manager of La Grande Robert Strope said La Grande will be receiving $2.7 million, but until guidelines are received, there are no projects planned.
Wallowa County at this time was uncertain on how much they will be receiving.
