JOHN DAY – Grant County residents need to be on the lookout for counterfeit currency. Bank of Eastern Oregon’s John Day Branch Manager Savannah Stout contacted our newsroom with information indicating multiple fake $100 bills were detected Monday at their bank. Apparently, the bills were circulated at a yard sale over the weekend.
Stoud noted that these counterfeit bills resemble the “$100’s from the 1990’s.” She said they even pass the ‘pen test,’ and the ‘watermark test.’ She noted the best indicator for testing these bills has been the texture, which is slightly different than legitimate bank notes.
