PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council will hear a proposal from Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram at its meeting at 7 p.m. today (Tuesday). He says that the PPD Gun Range could see an improvement suggested by Blue Mountain Shooters.

Blue Mountain Shooters is the only public or private organization that has an agreement with the police department regarding use of the range. They use the range for shooting events in exchange for the upkeep of the facility. The organization is proposing paying for and building a covered structure on the long-gun range that would keep approximately 12 shooters out of inclement weather. The cost of the building is estimated at $27,734.

Byram is suggesting that the city waive any permit fees for the cost of building the structure. He added that if the city and the organization dissolve their partnership for use of the range, the structure would remain. The permit fees that would be waived total $2,681.

The meeting is being held in council chambers of Pendleton City Hall. It is also available on Zoom. The meeting ID is 823 4889 2532 and the pass code is 814185.
