HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council got to tour Columbia Basin Extracting LLC this week. Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said it was hard to believe they were in the former home of Hermiston Foods.
“Now that it’s Columbia Basin Biosciences, it looks like a totally different facility,” he said. “The level of professionalism certainly didn’t leaving you feel like you were in an industrial processing facility.”
Morgan said they also learned how the company extracts CBD oil from hemp.
“We were all pretty impressed with the level of science and ingenuity that goes into the process,” he said.
After the tour, the council held its regular meeting. The only action item on the agenda was an update to the ordinance governing commercial businesses at the airport. That ordinance had not been updated since 1977, and the council approved changes that bring it into line with state and federal regulations.
