COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council is being asked to declare a water system emergency by Public Works Director Robert McAndrews at its meeting tonight (Tuesday), which begins at 7 p.m.
McAndrews reports that a consultant has found problems within two municipal wells and one of them – Well No. 3 – is one of the city’s highest producing wells.
The emergency declaration will allow the city of College Place to seek water from Walla Walla while repairs can be made to the motor on Well No. 3. It is estimated the necessary repairs will take two weeks.
McAndrews and City Administrator Mike Rizzitiello will also be authorized under the emergency declaration to allocate funds and resources as needed to remedy the situation, and to ensure the city’s municipal water system can be repaired, brought back online, and safe drinking water can be provided to residents. City staff have been working on performing maintenance on the city’s other wells to ensure there will not be a water shortage this summer.
