WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla City Council will meet both in person an electronically tonight (Wednesday) at 6:30 p.m. for its regular meeting. Council members will consider amending the city’s 2021-22 maintenance and operations budget and capital improvement project budget.

The amendment includes modifications to capital expenditures due to the upcoming summer concert series at the Wine Country Amphitheater located at Veterans Memorial Golf Course. A budget amendment will add $200,000 in increased revenue and increased expenditures in the golf course fund for the replacement of the driving range net and fencing.

The council will also consider accepting a $300,000 grant from the Transportation Improvement Board for the completion of sidewalks and other pedestrian enhancements in the vicinity of Pioneer Park. Currently this project is planned for design later this year with construction occurring in 2023.

Late last year, the city was nominated for an award by the Washington State Department of Transportation. City staff discussed several potential projects with the board and was advised to submit a proposal for a project that would add sidewalk, ADA ramps and crosswalk enhancements around Pioneer Park. The park’s needs were presented to the council at a work session in February. The needs were identified through public input as part of the recently completed ADA transition plan and are included in the city’s current comprehensive transportation plan.

Members of the public may attend tonight’s regular meeting in person or via Zoom. The meeting ID number is 881 2266 7030.
