Council to hear Marigold Hotel appeal

PENDLETON – The Marigold Hotel is on the agenda for today’s (Tuesday) Pendleton City Council meeting at 7 p.m. The city revoked the hotel’s business license at the request of Police Chief Chuck Byram after months of criminal activity at the facility on Southeast Court Avenue was capped by a shooting on Nov. 9.
Byram said that in 2020, police responded to the hotel 219 times. So far this year, they had responded 273 times at the time of the shooting. The owner of the hotel, Shivam Patel of Portland, is appealing that decision.
The council will have first readings of two resolutions that will mean more housing. The first is an annexation into the urban growth boundary of 10.71 acres between Southwest 18th and Southwest 24th streets. South County Construction want to develop 25 residential lots for property owner Bryan Jones.
The other resolution would launch the beginning of establishing a reimbursement district for the property between Highway 11, Goad Road, Highway 30, and Interstate 84. The five landowners are seeking ways to make their property more developable, and the city is considering building a roadway and underground utilities, a pump station, and a water trunk line to aid in that. A public hearing on the proposal has not yet been scheduled.
