COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council meets tonight at 7 p.m. and will consider a resolution permitting City Administrator Mike Rizzitiello to sign a contract with Community Forestry Consultants to locate GPS coordinates for trees and create an urban forestry management plan for local road right-of-way street trees.

In June, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources awarded the city a $25,000 grant which expires on April 30, 2023. Community Forestry Consultants is expected to work closely with the city’s public works department and the city’s park, arbor, and recreation advisory board as part of the project team to successfully complete this project.

The council will also consider a vacant property registration regulation. According to city staff, until recently the city required vacant residential property to be registered with the College Place Police Department. This gave the city the information to monitor vacant properties for trespassing, criminal activity, and presence of nuisances. With registration, the city could easily identify the owner or other responsible party to contact with any concerns. Also, owners of the property who may not live in the area were kept informed about any concerns regarding their property, including the presence of trespassers or criminal activity. The requirement was recently removed with the revamping of the city’s nuisance regulations.

The meeting can be attended at city hall or watched on the College Place YouTube channel. It can also be accessed on Zoom at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/85851438712.
