COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council meets tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. and is expected to pass a resolution to adjust the speed limit within the city limits on Taumarson Road from 25 to 35 miles per hour. The resolution is based on the findings of a recent speed study conducted by DKS Associates.
Currently, the Taumarson/Prospect/Reser Road corridor has inconsistent speed limits, so last August, the cities of College Place and Walla Walla, along with Walla Walla County, authorized DKS Associates to conduct a speed assessment and found that most of the corridor should have the speed limit raised.
If approved by the council, staff from public works will proceed with implementing the plan to adjust the speed limit from 25 to 35 miles per hour between State Route 125 to the west and Justice Avenue, which constitutes the eastern corporate limit to the city.
The council will also consider a resolution authorizing City Administrator Mike Rizzitiello to sign a contract with Anderson Perry Engineering for sidewalk engineering on Southwest Sixth Street (Davis to College) and Southwest Eighth Street (Bade to College) in an amount not to exceed $90,000. The city obtained a state grant in the amount of $341,184 to design and build about 1,800 feet of sidewalk.
Also on the agenda, the council is expected to approve a resolution supporting College Place Public Schools submitting a state grant application for a future park facility. The school district wants to work with the city to develop future park property on land it owns of Southwest Teal Lane adjacent to the site the district owns for a future new school.
Tonight’s meeting will be held virtually and can be view on the city’s YouTube channel or via Zoom. The meeting ID number is 816 3877 8432.
