WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla City Council meets tonight (Wednesday) at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers of Walla Walla City Hall. The council will consider a resolution selecting a design alternative for the Whitman Street-Division Street pedestrian improvement project adjacent to Pioneer Park. The design alternative consists of constructing rectangular rapid flashing beacons with curb extensions.

The council will also consider a resolution authorizing an interlocal agreement with Tri-State Steelheaders to provide a 15 percent match up to $385,000 to remove and replace the Fifth Avenue Bridge over Mill Creek with a bicycle and pedestrian structure. The funding will also cover making improvements to the channel for fish passage.

The estimated cost of the entire project is $2.5 million. The Tri-State Steelheaders is a nonprofit group promoting healthy salmon and steelhead populations.

The meeting is accessible on Zoom and the city’s website.
