WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla City Council meets tonight (Wednesday) at 6:30 p.m. and will consider approving a shoreline substantial development permit for the A.M. Jensen Building project at 54 East Main Street, which most recently was home to Macy’s. The proposed development consists of turning the former department store into an extended-stay hotel with commercial space.
Because a portion of Mill Creek channel runs adjacent the property, a shoreline substantial development permit is required for the proposed development which consists of construction and adaptive re-use and/or rehabilitation of the building.
In May, an architectural firm submitted a request for a permit. The proposed hotel will contain 22 guest suites and approximately 6,000 square feet of retail space located along Main Street and Colville Street.
The City of Walla Walla Planning Commission conducted a public hearing on the request and recommends the city council approve the shoreline substantial development permit.
